Course objective<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The CEM major examines the significant contemporary transformations within the media field (digitization, proliferation of distribution channels, rise of social media, etc.) and their impact on the profession of communication: How to conceptualize public relations in the era of social networks and \u00ab\u00a0new influencers\u00a0\u00bb? How to manage the reputation of an organization or brand in a context where information flows seem uncontrollable? Does the concept of crisis communication still hold meaning<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By leveraging the latest insights from social sciences (digital sociology, media economics and law, reception sociology, semiotics, etc.) and tapping into a network of recognized professionals in the communication and media sector, the Communications and Media major equips students with the tools to grasp and comprehend these challenges in all their complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Welcome to the Communication et M\u00e9dias (CEM)\/Communications and Media master’s (cycle) website! It has been designed with the invaluable help of students in the major. The Master’s degree is now firmly established in the curriculum of Sciences Po Lille and beyond. It combines a dual approach to communication and the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Understanding the contemporary evolutions within the media field <\/strong>(de-linearization and fragmentation of audiences, reshaping ownership of major groups, significance of social networks, etc.) is crucial for anyone aiming to work in the communication sector today. CEM thus offers a coherent set of teachings to understand and contemplate these changes: digital sociology, media economics, communication law, etc<\/strong>. These teachings, beneficial for future communicators, are also valuable for students aspiring to work in the media as research analysts, analysts, editorial managers, etc. Semester 3 presents two clearly identified and coherent tracks: \u00ab\u00a0communication professions\u00a0\u00bb and \u00ab\u00a0media analysis\u00a0\u00bb. In either domain, the program emphasizes the versatility of future graduates and aims, to this end, to be resolutely broad-based, whether in terms of career prospects, sector, or job roles, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Communication and Media major also places a central focus on social sciences<\/strong>. Firstly, because they aid in contemplating these contemporary evolutions, and secondly, because they enable students to develop skills highly valued and sought after in the job market, such as the ability to engage in critical thinking, to develop a structured and coherent analysis of a problem, etc. Being a good communicator or research analyst doesn’t merely involve mastering technical tools or knowing \u00ab\u00a0best practices\u00a0\u00bb: it’s about gaining perspective, asking the right questions, quickly understanding the functioning of a sector or organization <\/strong>to propose genuine strategic thinking.
